“When they woke up, with the sun already high in the sky, they were speechless with fascination. Before them, surrounded by ferns and palm trees, white and powdery in the silent morning light, was an enormous Spanish galleon. Tilted slightly to the starboard, it had hanging from its intact masts the dirty rags of its sails in the midst of its rigging, which was adorned with orchids. The hull, covered with an armor of petrified barnacles and soft moss, was firmly fastened into a surface of stones. The whole structure seemed to occupy its own space, one of solitude and oblivion, protected from the vices of time and the habits of the birds. Inside, where the expeditionaries explored with careful intent, there was nothing but a thick forest of flowers.”
One Hundred Years of Solitude – Gabriel Garcia Marquez

This fresh green brooch has an air of quiet grace – it’s on what I would call a “kilt pin” and is well able for some hard work, like keeping your favourite chunky cardigan closed. Because it’s a heavy duty pin it’s best suited to knits or loose weave fabrics.

Inspired by Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s verdant description of finding a lost Spanish galleon in the middle of a South American jungle, I made this brooch from a firmly stitched structure of fresh green and moss coloured hand-felted balls, adorned with a single pale green blossom. A little discovery amongst the green.

**Vital statistics:
The Moss Bloom brooch is approx. 6.5cm/2 ½ inches in length and 2.5cm or 1 inch at its widest point - it has a heavy duty or kilt pin back.

**This brooch is ready to ship.

** Because I know this will be a treat - either for yourself of some else - it comes wrapped as a treat in a lovely kraft paper box with a drawing of the brooch on the front and the brooch quote/story and care instructions inside
