Description

Hand-picked from our pristine mountain farm, our White Fir leaves are wild and naturally organic. Our herbs are kept as whole as possible and always air dried; no machines or equipment.

White Firs are regal and iconic, their tall, narrow, pointy stature is contrasted by their bountiful soft needles. Many parts of the Fir, and other conifers, are potently medicinal. We have a variety of medicinally potent, raw conifer products available, however this listing is strictly for the dried leaves.
Fir leaves/needles must be cured carefully and slowly, or they will turn brown and their medicinal properties will be lost. Our needles are dried slowly and naturally on the branch, preserving their coloration and potency. These needles average 3/4" in length and range from soft green to pale green, with very few brown needles (we try to pick those oddballs out). There may also be trace amounts of woody stem in the mix, and perhaps the odd strand of hair lichen that grows abundantly on White Fir and likes to become entangled in the needles.

The needles provide a simple, aromatic, and delicious remedy for the winter ailment season; immune-support and vitamin C couldn't be more natural, easy, or tasty! They're sweet and aromatic with a distinct camphorous twist, making them excellent for extracts and incenses as well!

*To be clear; this is a hand-harvested and dried herb. We do not buy in bulk and resell!

FIR NEEDLES AS A HEALING HERB

[**The following is an excerpt from Medicinal Plants of the Western Mountain States by C. W. Kane, broadly encompassing the Pinus genus, but applicable to Abies. Excerpt is limited to information only pertaining to the leaf as an herb**]

Chemistry:
For Pinus ponderosa: volatiles (needles): a-pinenem b-pinene, d-3-carene, b-mycrene, limonene, b-phellandrene, methyl chavicol; diterpene resin acids, (needles/oleoresin similar): abietic acid, gehydroabietic acid, neoabietic acid, imbricatolic acid, isocupressic acid, acteylisocupressic acid, succinylisocupressic acid palustric acid, pimaric acid, isopimaric aci; piperidine alkaloids; arabinogalactan-proteins; procyanidins.

Medicinal Uses:
...Pine needles: actually modified leaves, green Pine needles contain sizable amounts of aromatics and chlorophyll, and smaller amounts of ascorbate. Use them as another base material for essential oil distillation or a tea of the needles for medicinal/nutritional applications.
...The needles, seeds, and even inner bark of Pine (most conifers) contain small amounts of ascorbate (vitamin C) complexes. A simple Pine needle infusion makes a fine wintertime cold and flu tea. Its trace vitamin C content will be accented nicely by the needle's antimicrobial volatiles, evidenced by the piney aroma the steeping infusion produces. The tea can also be applied as a gargle for sore throats or as a nasal wash.

Indications [symptoms Pine needles can address]
...- As a cold and flu tea

Cautions:
[no cautions provided for sensible/normal use of needles]

Due to the high annual permitting fees for my business, combined with the cumbersome, expensive, and paperwork-heavy process of exporting wildlife specimens, I am no longer offering international shipping on wildlife specimens.

Additional policies

REGARDING WOLF, BLACK BEAR, COUGAR, AND LYNX:
Etsy does not allow the sale of products or specimens derived from these species, HOWEVER it IS legal for my business to trade and export these species. These bans are NOT based on any federal laws or legal restrictions. You can check here for current inventory on these species:
http://www.desertrosetaxidermy.com

If you would like to place a custom order for one of these species, please message me on Etsy, or send an email to contact [!at] DesertRoseTaxidermy.com.
Some states/countries may restrict the import, purchase, or ownership of bear, wolf and cougar, so please check with your local Fish and Game and know your wildlife laws before placing an order.

OWL, HAWK, RAVEN, AND OTHER MIGRATORY BIRDS AND BIRDS OF PREY:
I get a lot of custom requests for items from birds of prey and other migratory species. Nearly all migratory birds are federally protected, and it is illegal to possess any part (bone, nest, or feather) of these animals. I cannot help you with your quest for these specimens!

FAQs

Here’s the scoop:
Wildlife has international trade regulations. The fees, permits, and lengthy processes have made it impractical for me to continue offering international wildlife shipment.

The good news:
Items from domesticated species have no USA export regulations. I can ship domesticated species worldwide with no additional export fees.

Remember:
Always check your local customs and regulations before importing any animal specimens!
I do not trap. I do hunt, but not for business. Wildlife is only ever taken for food or farm security. Precious few of my wildlife specimens will have come from personal hunting. The vast majority of my wildlife items are salvaged “waste” from the hunting and trapping trades, where it is commonplace for most of the animal to be discarded. This unique form of “recycling” offers folks a chance to use and honor pieces that would otherwise have been thrown away! As of 2018, none of our bones will have had any monetary exchange attached to them; we clean foraged and salvaged bones only!
