Fun Shot Glasses - a pair, adorned with the face of Smirk, the Gargoyle, an original Chischilly Pottery design. I did the original carving of Smirk and made the slip-casting mold. He is reproduced in functional, food-safe stoneware clay and glazes. H e will make a great addition to your home bar accessories for your liqueurs and shots!

Gargoyles are said to scare off and protect from any evil or harmful spirits... mostly by being fearsomely ugly. We think Smirk fits the profile. The advantage of having gargoyles adorn your drinkware is that they frighten away evil spirits so you may consume your good spirits in peace.

Many medieval cathedrals included gargoyles and chimeras. The most famous examples are those of Notre Dame de Paris. Although most have grotesque features, the term gargoyle has come to include all types of images. Some gargoyles were depicted as monks, or combinations of real animals and people(chimeras), many of which were humorous. Some of these creatures were integrated architecturally as spewing gutters (gargle... gargoyle), while some did not act as rainspouts and are more properly called grotesques. They served more as ornamentation, but are now synonymous with gargoyles. (Of course, their most important function was to frighten away evil spirits to protect the building from their negative influences.)
