Beverly's charm bracelet with 8 puffy Victorian sterling silver hearts and padlock on a chain, Marine Corps sweetheart jewelry

Eight sterling silver hearts grace this vintage charm bracelet, telling the story of a little girl's love for her dad, called away in service to the Marine Corps.

The silver chain alternates large plain links with ornately filagreed ones. Attached are eight "puffed" silver heart charms and one flat heart with a padlock design (this one is attached with a safety pin, just as I found it, but I'd be happy to add a jump ring for it if you want!). The spring-loaded ring clasp works fine.

The charms:
• floral design on one side, the other in engraved "Dad," 3/4" tall
• plain center, ornate border, one side engraved "B.L.G." 1/2" tall
• diagonal decoration, one side engraved "B.L.G.", 5/8" tall
• V-shaped decoration, one side engraved "Beverly," 3/4" tall
• Marine Corps insignia on one side (eagle, globe, anchor and words "Semper Fidelis") on a red enamel field that is partly deteriorated, other side is engraved "6th Sgm" (I think this is "6th Marine Corps Sergeant Major") 5/8" tall
• plain on both sides, "B.L.G." engraved on one side. 5/8" tall
• plain on one side, ornate border on the other, 1/2" tall
• plain on both sides, very puffy, 3/4" tall
• flat charm, heart with padlock design, 3/4 inch tall, probably not original to this bracelet

The chain is 7-1/2 inches long. All but three of the charms are marked "sterling." None have been polished--I thought you'd like to decide whether to shine them up or leave them with a patina.

So what do you think? I'm guessing Beverly's dad, a Sergeant Major in the 6th Marines, brought her a charm from his travels each time he had to be away. And the bracelet would remind her of his love during his long absences.

I don't know how old the charms are. They are in the Victorian style, but could actually be from the WWII era or later. I have kept this bracelet together because it tells a nice story, but if you are interested in only one of some of the charms, contact me and I will consider selling them separately. Just let me know if you'd like a close-up photo of any particular charm.

A beautiful and nostalgic bracelet!
