Description

This solid silver souvenir ring dates back to the late 30s to early 40s. Art Deco bodied rings like this are highly desirable to collectors. This one is still quite crisp and in great condition especially considering its age of around 80 years old.

The medieval styled coat of arms of Jalisco, Mexico sits upon the ring's top with what looks to be mythical sea creatures wrapped around its shanks.

Carlos V of Spain granted the coat of arms to Jalisco and its capital city of Guadalajara in 1539. On it are two lions holding up a tree with a close helm topped with a flag.

• Solid Silver
• Coat of Arms and Mythical Creatures
• Hallmark: MADE IN MEXICO
• Sized 10 1/4
• Ring face: ~ 1 1/8" x 5/8"

Vintage souvenir rings, otherwise known as “Mexican Biker Rings,” date back to the 1930s. They were sold to traveling tourists and through novelty catalogs such as the Johnson Smith novelty catalogs in the late 40s and 50s. Rings like this were worn by American GIs returning back from the war, rebellious teenagers, fraternal organizations and lodges, motorcycle club members and really anyone who wanted a piece of the outlaw culture.

• Ring sizes may vary a bit due to the size and shape of these rings
