Why should basic be boring?

This bluebird house has a stylish peaked roof that not only looks nice but more importantly, sheds rain water faster and more efficiently helping to keep the interior of the birdhouse dry. The roof and front edges are all routered to add interest.

This is a standard bluebird house with a 4'' x 4'' floor, the side door opens for end of season clean out ( Bluebirds do not like old nests in a prospective home ) there are holes for drainage in the floor and openings under the roof for ventilation. Of course it has the required 1 1/2'' entrance hole preferred by Eastern Bluebirds.

We added a wooden entrance hole predator guard to this house, the guard makes it more difficult for a raccoon to get its paws on the eggs or young within the house, it also is a deterrent to squirrels from enlarging the hole to get inside and take the house for themselves, the guard is removable and replaceable.

This nest box has a pole mount already attached, this means all you need a 3/4'' pole ( we like to use metal conduit pipe available from most hardware stores, should cost about $7 for a 10' piece)

The pole should be 2-3 feet deep in the ground and 4-5 feet above the ground, simply slide the nest box with pole mount onto the pole.

As you can see from the pictures, we do not skimp when it comes to building the house, it is secured with screws and carpenters exterior glue for years of enjoyment and service.
