Description

This lot of 13 antique buttons is from the late 1800s to early 1900s. Based upon the reference book, "The Big Book of Buttons", these buttons are:

- 1 variation of the button titled, "Helmut", showing a suit of armor with a closed visor atop a wooden background (some loss to the wood and it is slightly raised on one side)

- 2 variations of the button titled, "Crusader with Shield and Mace"

- 1 variation of the button titled, "Jean La Håche", a French Heroine who helped to defend the town of Beauvais. She encouraged the dispirited soldiers by leaping onto the battlements and hacking at the enemy with an axe.

- 1 variation of the button titled, "Christian", from The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan.

- 1 variation of the button titled, "Genghis Khan"

- 1 variation of the button titled, "Shield with Crest and Ragged Mantle"

- 1 variation of the button titled, "Weapons and Helmut"

- 2 variations of the button titled, "Plumed Helmet, Shield, and Sword"

- 3 unnamed buttons depicting warriors on horses

These are as found and have various backings and run from 5/8" to 1 1/2" in size. There is weathering and patina from over 100 years of age and wear. Great for button collectors, sewing enthusiasts, fashion historians, history lovers and also work wonderfully fashioned into keepsakes such as jewelry. Take your favorite to your local jeweler and have them professionally transformed into wearable art such as necklaces, rings, and brooches.
