Now this is a striking piece of Jewelry! The cabochon is made of Mariposite, paired with an elongated white cultured pearl. Mariposite is a mineral which is a chromium-rich variety of mica, which imparts an attractive green color to the generally white dolomite marble in which it is commonly found. It was named for Mariposa, California, though it can be found in several places in the Sierra Nevada mountains. I made a setting out of 24 gauge sterling plate and scalloped silver wire. The hanger was made of coiled half round wire, so that the beads could easily run through it and still be visible. The sterling silver clasp has a double hook and round loop for its closure for easy installation around the neck. I wanted a flash of silver to sparkle across the pendant so I brought two pieces of sterling wire diagonally across the front. Sarah added many sterling silver spacer beads and larger sterling flat square accent beads. The beads of the necklace bring out the greens and white of the centerpiece, as well as darker greens to contrast with the lighter color values. The beads used are green jade, green goldstone, banded green agate, hematite, bloodstone, cultured pearls, and Czech glass. The necklace length is 21 inches, and the pendant centerpiece is 2 1/2 inches long by 1 1/2 inches wide. The clothing that you wear with our necklaces bring out different colors and values in this piece. This is the reason I photograph them with different backgrounds. This is sure to become a family heirloom!
