Hina'ea is the Hawaiian goddess of sunrise and sunset, so it's no wonder she gravitated toward this firey ensemble.

This amazing Hawaiian wrap dress and bolero set are the ultimate find! They're fashioned in a bright red cotton broadcloth, printed with tonal flowers and metallic gold flourishes. The dress itself is quintessentially 1950's, featuring a perky bustline and smocked side panels which allow for a little sizing flexibility. The sarong-style skirt wraps around and ties to the wearer's left. The dress bodice is lined in white cotton and is boned at the back side seams. The straps were attached by hand at some point by the original owner. I assume, then, that the dress was originally intended to be strapless.

The bolero features a mandarin collar and no closures. The tag reads: "Kamehameha made and styled in HAWAII".

DRESS VITALS:

BOLERO VITALS:

BACK LENGTH: 16.75" top of collar to hem

ARMHOLE - 18"

CONDITION:

This dress is in wearable condition, but has some idiosyncrasies it's important to note. It's obvious that the dress was altered by an original owner, as the straps appear to be sewn on by hand and need stabilizing. The dress was also taken in by hand on the side seams and along the interior bustline. These stitches would probably be easy to remove or replace. The dress has a substantial (but exceptionally well-patched) tear in the skirt - it's nearly impossible to see. There's one additional unpatched small (3/16" round) hole in the skirt, and another small patched hole in the bodice. Due to the nature of this outfit's print, all flaws are difficult to see.
