This precious pendant is a spectacular light purplish blue color. The beautifully pale tanzanite rondelles are wonderfully faceted and graduated. The bail has cute, ornate flowers. The pendant is small, sweet, and sparkling.

Tanzanite is the blue/purple variety of the mineral zoisite. It is an extremely rare mineral that is only found in the Merelani Hills of Tanzania . This limited supply makes tanzanite rarer than diamonds. Tanzanite is universally heat-treated to produce a range of hues between bluish-purple to purplish-blue. Since heat treatment is universal, it has no effect on price, and finished gems are assumed to be heat-treated. Tanzanite is relatively new on the gemstone market (it was only discovered in 1967) but is now a very popular gemstone in America. In some markets, tanzanite has even been placed in the same category as ruby, sapphire, emerald and opal. Due to governmental challenges, flooding, hand mining limitations, and tremendous popularity, there is now a shortage of this gorgeous stone.
