Original, beautifully detailed vintage photo print of mountain ranges and impact craters on Earth's Moon.

The print shows: Copernicus Crater, Gay-Lussac Crater, Montes Carpatus, Reinhold Crater.

The Moon is Earth's only natural satellite and the fifth largest satellite in the Solar System. The Moon makes a complete orbit around the Earth every 27.3 days. Lunar craters are craters on Earth's Moon. The Moon's surface is saturated with craters, almost all of which were formed by impacts. The word crater was adopted by Galileo from the Latin word for cup. He discovered that, contrary to general opinion at that time, the Moon was not a perfect sphere, but had both mountains and cup-like depressions, the latter of which he gave the name craters.

The size of the print: 9,6" x 6,3" (24,5 x 16 cm) including its border.
Printed in 1896, Bibliographisches Institut Leipzig Germany, as an illustration for the 5th edition of "Meyers' Konversations Lexikon".

The print is in good condition, the paper shows its age with creamy patina, perfect for framing.

Concerning the age of the paper - cca. 115 years - some spots can be occured on the margin and the reverse side, but these do not effect the quality of the print itself as it can be seen on the scan.

Please note, that by antique prints due to their age some imperfections are to be expected.
