MEANING: This form of the Triple Spiral has been found in Celtic artifacts from the early Iron Age. It is probably an interpretation of the Spiral of Newgrange and conveys the Aspects of the Goddess and the cycle of Life, Death and Rebirth.

This is a dual symbol. As the Three Tears, it represents the concept of “Death before Dishonor”. It illustrates a story of a 16th century Okinawan and two Japanese Samurai. The Okinawan was being restrained by the samurai, who were ordered by the Okinawan King to throw him into a vat of boiling oil. To show his indifference to death and disdain for the King, the Okinawan grabbed the samurai and dove into the vat. The symbol is seen on the Okinawan flag.

THE CARVING:
My Carvings are single pieces of western red cedar, designed and carved to be wall hangings. Each piece is finished with a blend of clear oils that brings out the natural color of the wood. For more information on the process of creation, please see my profile.

SIZE:
The last picture has the piece on a quilting board, lined up on the 1 inch marks. So subtract 1 inch from the height and width for the stock size. Measurements may vary slightly from piece to piece.
