This hat is a beauty. I think it was made around 1900-1920 but it could be earlier. The inside of the hat is stamped "Pullastic Hat Lining". This lining system was produced from 1860-1930. An ad from Sept 1916 stated that this lining allowed one girl does the work of six. This millinery advertisement promoted this innovation as a time and labor saving device. The condition is good with no holes or odor. There is one very light makeup spot on the inside of the lining in the front. The base of the hat is black straw with fabric (velvet) flowers and fabric leaves sandwiched under a black mesh. The flowers are in good condition with only a few loose pieces separated from the main arrangement. The side sweeping design has a silk like spray of flowers with a black ribbon flowing along the side. A few of the round berry type blossoms here have lost their centers but are pretty regardless and look like budding flowers. This hat is extremely comfortable to wear having the adjustable lining. You hardly know it is on your head. The circumference measures 23" now and can be tightened with the inside cord. The hat is 12" long, 9" wide and 5" high with a sloping crown.
