Description of the author:
I am proud to present my newest puzzle, the Mystic Urn!
The Mystic Urn is the third puzzle in the Mystic Series, a puzzle series that is entirely focused on the geometry of the Hexagonal Bipyramid. Each Mystic Puzzle introduces at least one piecetype that the previous puzzle did not have.
The Mystic Urn is a jumbling puzzle. It has 14 faces and 14 different colors. Notice that the stickers on corresponding faces across the different Mystic Puzzles are the same color. This was intentional  There are 73 pieces in the Mystic Charm, including the core. There are 7 different piecetypes, only one of which is new relative to the Mystic Charm. There is only a small window of opportunity for the Mystic Urn to exist between the Mystic Charm and Mystic Totem, so this design was heavily constrained by the natural geometry. It would be quite difficult to design a puzzle with a drastically different exterior shape that still remains equivalent to the Mystic Urn.
Each of the 12 grips can reach 5 different jumbling stops, including the position they start in. As shown in my Jumbling Geometries Catalog, these stops are approximately at 104.5°, 151.0°, 209.0°, and 255.5°, in addition to the natural stop at 0°. These angles can be expressed precisely as ±acos(-1/4) and ±acos(-7/8). This puzzle implements the first 3 layers of jumbling.
Worth noting is new piectype F, which was a very risky piece to design as it has a very small mechanism foot and sticks far outside of the puzzle!
Although it looks precarious, I have not experienced any problems with this piecetype sticking out thus far, but I imagine if you were to push too hard on it, it could snap off.
The Mystic Urn is a very challenging jumbling puzzle, but it has several convenient things going for it as well. Since it is a face turning puzzle, it is generally a bit easier to understand where moves and stops are located and a majority of the pieces will form clean faces with neighboring pieces. Although there is prevalent overhang bandaging (primarily caused by the new F piecetype), it doesn't block as many moves as you may expect and often times, a lot more grips are available than you may think. As a result, it can reach an enormous number of shapes! I have coded the Mystic Urn into my program and completely explored the shape space and I can confirm that the Mystic Urn can reach well over a billion different shapes! I'll present the full results a bit later. Overall the Mystic Urn is a surprisingly well-behaved puzzle and it feels like the geometry wants this puzzle to exist - so many things line up so perfectly!
PS. The Mystic Urn is 94.5mm between the two hexagonal faces and 69.7mm between parallel trapezoid faces. There are two reasons for the odd measurements. First, the design was based around the equator hexagon being exactly 90mm tip to opposite tip (before filleting), and second, The hexagonal faces were extended slightly past the original design to account for filleting of the top and bottom pieces, allowing for a "watertight" look for the hexagonal faces.
