The entire piece is slip cast from a mold. It is then dried and painstakingly cleaned and retextured if necessary, before being fired. The dragon and his rocky perch are then painted in layers of acryllic stains to achieve depth and shading, and then sealed in a flat matte finish. The orb is coated in a clear glaze and fired for a second time. A mother of pearl overglaze is then applied and the orb is fired a third time to give it a magical sheen and swirls of color.
It measures 11.5 inches tall by 9 inches wide.
