This wonderful 12-sided pink transferware plate was made by William Adams & Sons of Staffordshire, England, circa 1850.

In the design "Columbia", the rims are covered with scrolls and flowers against a lined background. In the center is depicted a Gothic shrine and statue with a man, woman holding a parasol, and a child to one side. With flowers in the foreground and a bridge, river, trees, buildings and mountain peaks in the background, this creates a wonderful scene.

The pink transfer mark with the maker's name and pattern shows clearly on the underside.

The 8.5" deep plate is in very good condition for its age. There appear to be 3 rough glaze pops on the front and stilt marks on the back, and the usual age-related crazing. The glazing is bright and consistent.

All in all, this is a lovely piece of romantic Staffordshire transferware to add to your collection!
