Handmade

Materials

pine, deer antler, woodburned pine, water based polyurethane, wood, round wood, light colored wood, soft wood, deer leather, howlite stones, snowflake obsidian

Brandubh is an ancient Celtic board game similar to chess. It comes out of the old Germania Tafl, or Table Games, much like Hnefatafl of Scandinavia. It is so close to Hnefatafl that the rules are identical, only Brandubh is a smaller version.

Brandubh means “Black Raven”

Today it’s making a comeback in certain areas and among certain groups of people. Personally my wife and I play it often and love the game.

I handcrafted this piece of art, one of a kind Brandubh board using pine wood, snowflake obsidian, howlite stones and deer antlers. Crafting the board much like I do my Viking House/Rune Shields. The board is a piece of solid 1x10” pine.

This is not a kit, nor stencil, or laser work. The whole board was hand designed, hand drawn and hand burned.

Each playing piece is made from deer antler.

The playing board is wood burned and contains the 49 square battlefield. Burned into the top and bottom are dragon motifs. The sides have the games name Black Raven spelled out in the traditional Celtic Ogham symbols.

The name of the game, Brandubh is burned into the back of the playing board. The board is treated with clear water-based polyurethane.

This Branddubh Game comes with:

• 1 playing board
• 1 King – deer antler
• 4 King’s Men – snowflake obsidian
• 8 Opponent pieces – howlite stones
• Typed game instructions + a handmade leather bag to hold the playing pieces

If you like chess, you’ll love this game! If you enjoy quality, unique and handcrafted games then this one is sure to find its way to the showcase table of your home, office, club or game room!

Celtic bloodline or not, this game is fun for anyone old enough to manage the rules of chess.

The Black Raven awaits you – Brandubh!
