Sweet! 1930s open Sugar Bowl & Creamer, Atomic Art Deco Salem China in the conical Streamline shape, nautical Sailing Ships pattern: stylized sailboats in red, black & gray float on jaunty waves under twinkling red stars on creamy white china with tight rings of reddish orange & platinum, very Art Moderne nautical glam!

:: Condition & Measurements ::
In Grade C, 'Good-to-Poor' vintage condition - both pieces have overall crazing as expected for this age, and chips on their feet (see photos for more detail); Sugar Bowl has 1 chip on its foot and a couple underneath (not visible from above); is also missing its lid. Creamer has one chip under tip of its spout and 3 chips on its base. Set is priced accordingly; otherwise, very clean inside, with no cracks or repairs.

Sugar Bowl is 7 inches [17.8cm] from handle to handle; Creamer is 6" [15.25cm].

PLEASE NOTE: We have many other pieces in this pattern, some not yet listed. It’s our intention to provide the most comprehensive collection of this unique Art Deco dinnerware available online, so please contact us if you're seeking something specific, or see our Atomic Salem China section for current listings: http://www.etsy.com/shop/SusabellaBrownstein?section_id=7195421

:: Care & Handling ::
As with any china with metallic embellishment, these should not be used in a microwave, and we strongly recommend hand washing soon after use. Where there is surface crazing, avoid staining by restricting contact with acidic or deeply colored liquids & foods (strong coffee, beets, etc). Finally, while it is tempting to stack the pieces, doing so will wear down the glaze on the handles.

PLEASE NOTE: Vintage and antique dinnerware pieces were often decorated with glazes containing varying degrees of toxic substances, like lead or cadmium. If you have a concern, please research before purchasing. To minimize exposure to these substances when using vintage dinnerware, please observe the following precautions: use infrequently; do not expose to high heat, including microwaves, ovens, and dishwashers; avoid contact with acidic foods & liquids, especially if cracked or crazed (slight crackling of the clear overglaze); do not use to store food or liquids; wash by hand soon after use and allow to air dry.

:: Salem Dinnerware Shapes & Patterns ::
Atomic, futuristic, the epitome of 1930's glamour, the Salem China Company's Streamline & Tricorne dinnerware shapes (created by Don & Viktor Schreckengost, Herbert Smith & Vincent Broomhall) smashed into the well-ordered design world of line and curve with Jetson-like conical drinkware with sharply angular handles, curvy triangular plates, saucers, and bowls...simply retro fabulous! Salem produced a variety of designs and color patterns for their distinctive atomic art deco & mid century Streamline, Tricorne and Century shapes:

-- SOLIDS like the very popular Mandarin Orange, plus the more rare blue, green & yellow;
-- STREAMLINES of Platinum, Gold, Orange, and Platinum with Orange;
-- IMAGES of Art Deco floral motifs both bold and demure, petit point figures, Moderne polo players atop their horses, sailing ships, card suit symbols…the variety is seemingly endless!
