Description

This is a vintage, 1953 RAOB, Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes silver gilt and enamel coronation jewel (medal and ribbon) by Fattorini & Sons Ltd and is hallmarked for Birmingham, 1952. This was awarded to J.D. Thompson C.P. Towan 6895 as shown in photo 6 above.

The ribbon has red, white and blue stripes and there is a silver and enamel top bar with RAOB embossed and 1953 CORONATION JEWEL in gold / gilt on the blue enamel.

Attached to the ribbon is a circular medal with Queen Elizabeth II, the gilding is worn with remnants of gilding left in places, see photo 4 above.

The verso is in silver gilt, with some minor wear to the gilding and dark marks around the inner edges etc. I have not cleaned this as some buyers prefer the item as is or prefer to clean themselves. The marks are shown in photo 5 above, where loose thread is also visible from the ribbon.

The medal / jewel is hallmarked on the verso:
F&S (makers mark)
Anchor for Birmingham assay office
Lion passant
Date letter C for 1952
Queens Head

Please see photo 6 above for the actual hallmarks present on the jewel / medal.

Size:
9.7cm total length approx
4.5cm max width (at widest point)

The jewel weighs 19.6g
