Wheel thrown and soda fired white stoneware serving bowl with handles. Glazed inside with a warm glossy creamy tam, and soda flashed on the outside. White porcelain slip swirled on the inside to give a sense of rhythm and motion of the wheel. The bowl is 13" x 11.5" x 3.5" and will serve your favorite meals or decorate your table between meals.

oda firing? Near the maturing point of the firing, at about 2300 degrees f. a liquid mixture of sodium is introduced into the kiln by means of a garden sprayer. The sodium in the kiln atmosphere combines with the clay and forms a glaze. The process is dramatic and transformative, enhancing the clay and glazes alike. Soda firing is similar to salt glazing, but with fewer harmful environmental pollutants. Glazes become more glossy, and special clay slips (liquid clays) are used to promote flashing--changes to a range of colors affected by the flame and soda.

All of my work is food, dishwasher, and microwave safe.
