This gorgeous antique document, is a certificate of baptism dated 1884. The certificate is in German, and the handwriting is a bit tough to read. The child was born in 1883, in Illinois, from what I can make out. I am unable to read the name.

Beautiful etching style Catholic images adorn the border, and it does have a marking in the lower left corner, which reads "Verlag von Ernst Kaufmann, 66 Fulton Street, New-York". There is an embossed seal in the paper in the center of the bottom, which is also too difficult to read. There are images of referenced bible verses throughout the ornate border.

There is a darker round spot in the lower left corner of the document as shown.

The frame itself is really unique, and we haven't seen anything quite like it. It's made of wood and is in rough condition, the worst of which is shown in the images. Not too bad for 127 years old. Overall dimensions are 15.25" x 12".
