Rāṣṭrasenā (Rajasthan)

♥❖❁❖♥

Rastrasena is a Hindu goddess who takes a wholly human-like form, or a wholly hawk form, or sometimes a hawk-headed form.

This drawing is an illustration for the book entitled "A Garland of Forgotten Goddesses", by Michael Slouber

A modified paragraph from the story text describes her thusly:

"The pale-limbed goddess is dressed in resplendent red, adorned in golden ornaments. She resembles the glory of the sun and is like the splendor of the moon, her eyes like glorious lotus leaves. She is heroic, and holds a (vajra and a) sword, a shield, bow and arrows. She is like a living autumnal moon, who is the great goddess who has four arms, who is endowed with external signs of youth."

I had been given a free postcard of this thangka painting of Avalokiteshvara by the artist a while back and decided to order the actual print in a small 5x7 size. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality and detail of the actual print versus the postcard. You’d think it was the original painting - that’s how how high quality these prints and the paper they are printed on are.

A set of beautiful and vibrant pictures - seems almost blasphemous to call them a deck! I wanted to use imagery that aligned with my background (South-Asian Hindu) rather than a standard tarot deck and took a gamble on this. I am more than happy I did. Thank you, Laura Santi

All of Laura's work is amazing, and for me this piece in particular is very special. The quality of these giclée prints is really exceptional: the crisp detail, the paper quality, everything is phenomenal. It's an honor and a deep gift to have this sacred iconography as a central part of my home altar and practice space.
