One hen, two ducks, three squawking geese...I learned this tongue twister at a campfire as a Boy Scout, many years ago. My scout friends and I loved how wacky it was, so we memorized it and started performing it at campfires whenever the call went out for contributions. I earned my Eagle Rank, aged out, went off to college and the rest of life and forgot all about this wonderful bit of craziness. Eventually, I got married and we had three sons. My oldest came of age and wanted to join Cub Scouts. I suddenly found myself at a campfire, in a scout setting again and someone was asking for songs or skits.

As a den leader and now scoutmaster, I have spent years teaching this to the youth I work with. Somewhere along the way, I decided this would make a great children's book, so I made one (you can find it on Amazon if you search for "10 Things (One Hen, Two Ducks)" by Toby Gray). It took several years to complete as I'm a stay-at-home dad and I have a lot of distractions and interruptions to my career as an artist (and there's that whole scoutmaster business...), but I'm happy with the results.

I knew I had to make a shirt to go along with the book. I toyed with the idea of making one shirt for each "thing", or each combination of things (it's a "repeat after me" tongue twister when performed at a campfire), but that would amount to 20ish shirts, and not enough people know what this is to make that feasible (I have heard others perform "one hen, two ducks"-though there are some slight variations-but I've been surprised at how many scouters and campers are unfamiliar with it). My middle son looked over my shoulder at my iPad and said "Oh, I thought you were going to just do a grid of the pages"-similar to the Faces/Emotions of Vader/Chewbacca shirts someone made. It's brilliant, I can't believe I didn't think of that option.

So here it is, the official 10 Things shirt! If you wear one out in public and people come up to you and "get it", I'd love to hear about it!

This thick cotton t-shirt makes for a go-to wardrobe staple! It's comfortable, soft, and its tubular construction means it's less fitted.

• 100% ring-spun cotton (heather colors contain polyester)
• Fabric weight: 4.5 oz (153 g/m2)
• Pre-shrunk
• Shoulder-to-shoulder taping
• Double stitched sleeves and bottom hem
