This beautiful set of ship bookends is nice and heavy - they appear to be made of a copper/iron alloy. Beautiful aged patina. You can see hints of the copper more clearly on one bookend, with just a bit of green verdigris. The other bookend has a wee bit of rust in the crevaces of the sails - very minor and just adds to the antique character. Although I believe these to be copper & iron, they have the appearance of antique bronze.

Each bookend measures approximately 5 1/4" tall x 4 5/8" long x 2" wide. The only mark is an imprinted "L" on the lower right of the back of each base. I have not been able to determine the maker. I have seen other sellers attribute them attributed to Hubley, but I have not been able to confirm this. (If they were made by Hubley, they would date to between 1920 and 1944). A truly special set, and in such gorgeous condition!
