Fabulous atomic Art Deco Salem Tricorne Saucer and Streamline Cup in the exceptionally rare 1930s Polo Pony pattern...glamorous and charming, unusual and iconic, creamy white pottery ringed with platinum & orange streamlines and black, gray & orange dots at each corner of the triangle-shaped plates, while a stylishly attired polo player swings his mallet from atop his black pony in a sea of gray & orange dots...simply stunning!

This listing is for 1 Cup & Saucer; at time of listing we have a total of 4.

Most pieces are crazed but have been cleaned so very little-to no stains remain; there is occasional light wear to the decals; otherwise, no chips, cracks, repairs, etc.

Maker’s Mark: The bottom of the saucers read: “TRICORNE BY SALEM U.S. PATENT #94245" while the cups sport the usual "U.S. PATENT D. 96799 STREAMLINE By SALEM," all in platinum ink.

:: Care & Handling ::

As with any china with metallic embellishments, this set should not be used in microwaves, and we strongly recommend hand washing. Where there is surface crazing, avoid staining by restricting contact with acidic or deeply colored liquids & foods (strong coffee, beets, etc).

PLEASE NOTE: Vintage and antique dinnerware pieces were often decorated with glazes containing varying amounts of toxic chemicals like lead or cadmium. If you have a concern, please research before purchasing. To minimize exposure to these elements when using vintage dinnerware, please observe the following precautions: use infrequently; do not expose to high heat, including microwaves, ovens, and dishwashers; avoid contact with acidic foods & liquids, especially if cracked or crazed (slight crackling of the clear overglaze); do not use to store food or liquids; hand wash with a gentle detergent soon after use and allow to air dry.

:: Salem Tricorne • Salem Streamline ::

In the 1930s, the Salem (Ohio) China Company produced a series of futuristic, atomic dinnerware shapes (designed by Viktor & Don Schreckengost, F.H. Sebring, Jr., Herbert Smith & Vincent Broomhall) known as Tricorne and Streamline. They exploded into the well-ordered design world with their Jetson-like conical shapes, sharply angular handles, and curvy triangular plates.

This polo emblem is a playful departure from the usual variety of designs and colors—solids like Mandarin orange, banana yellow, grass green, & Egyptian blue; streamlines of platinum, Creamsicle orange, aqua, or gold; and images like sailing ships, petit point figures, art deco floral swags, card suit symbols and so on...

It’s our intention to provide the most comprehensive collection of this unique 1930s dinnerware available online, so for more fantastic Tricorne (and its cousin Streamline) dishes, see our Atomic Salem Dinnerware section:
