It gave me great joy to create this mixed media art and practioners of Buddhism will understand why. I used a print of a photo I took of the Tian Tan Buddha, Lantau Island, Hong Kong, to create this collage. Tian Tan Buddha is the second largest outdoor seated Bronze Buddha statue (112 feet tall) in the world, and symbolizes the harmonius relationship between humans and nature. On the image, Buddha's right hand is raised in "abhaya" mudra which means "fear not" and the left hand is resting on the lap in "dhana (giving)" gesture. It is truly a magnificent icon, and amazingly, the size does not in any way deter the serenity and the calm expression on the face of the Buddha.

Mixed media medium on a gallery wrapped canvas is perfectly suited to evoke the magnificence of this image. I painted the sky background using acrylic ink and added several layers of Chiyogami papers to the colored background. The image of the Buddha was mounted on a piece of foam board and adhered to the canvas. Buddha's image rises above the background majestically. I glazed the image of the Buddha with Diamond Glaze which gives it a dimensional look. There is also an image of one of the "devas" offering flowers on the righthand side corner. The collage is finished with a scroll inscribed with a Buddhist saying. The canvas has been painted on the sides and is therefore ready to hang.

All the materials used on this mixed media art are archival and meant to last for a long time.

Both the canvas and the artwork are 8" x 10". It is signed and dated on the back.
