Redgum
 (Eucalyptus camaldulensis)

River red gum is an iconic Australian tree, yielding an equally iconic Australian timber. The timber has a reputation for durability, strength and its distinctive red colouring. Its wide availability has seen it used for a range of applications including heavy construction, railway sleepers, flooring, framing, fencing, plywood and veneer manufacture, wood turning, firewood and charcoal production. It was also commonly used as street paving throughout Sydney in the late 1800s.
The river red gum has a widespread distribution around the Australian mainland, except southern Western Australia, south-western South Australia and the eastern coastal areas of Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. In keeping with its name, this species is commonly found along the rivers. It can withstand submersion during floods for long periods.
The hallmark of river red gum timber is its distinctive red appearance. The grain is commonly interlocked with frequent gum veins. The timber's charm is often best showcased in furniture; the spectacular deep red colour and the typical fiddle-back figure of river red gum timber make each piece of furniture unique.

Huon Pine
" Lagarostrobos franklinii "
This rare wood comes from the wild forests' of western Tasmania. It grows in lush wet rainforests along with myrtle, blackwood and other species.
Huon pine has a rich golden texture, and an exquisite smell and touch. A unique quality of huon pine is the unusual figuring that sometimes occurs, giving the impression of birds' eyes on the surface of the wood. When this occurs, which is rare, it is called birds eye huon pine, making it extremely valuable.
Huon pine contains a natural oil which gives the wood a unique fragrance which is never lost. This oil makes up 7% of the tree's volume. A box made from this wood will always retain the fragrance of the oil when the lid is opened. This natural oil makes the wood resistant to water penetration and rot, making huon pine an ideal timber for boat building. This has made Tasmania famous for boat building since the days of the early convicts.
Because of this unique quality it was felled indiscriminately, and has become extremely rare. It is now a protected species and can be sourced only from dead fallen trees by specially licensed wood collectors. Huon pine can vary in age from hundreds to thousands of years, and some existing trees may be 5,000 years old. The rich creamy yellow wood is soft, durable, smooth, oily and light weight. The wood is very easy to work with and takes a high polish. Huon Pine is the most durable of Australian timbers, and logs, which have lain on the ground for several hundred years are still being harvested and milled.
Huon pine can only be found in Tasmania and it's timber is highly sought after by woodworkers for furniture, craft wood and turning .

I’ve been stalking this shop for over a year, plagued by indecision as the boxes are all so stunning. I watched box after shortlisted box disappear from sale, and finally took the plunge. I picked it up from the post office today and I can’t stop admiring this box! It is even more beautiful than the photos show, with exquisite craftsmanship and beautiful timber. If you are looking for a special gift, you can’t go wrong with one of Anthony’s boxes. Don’t wait as long as I did!

I’d been eyeing these boxes for a long time and so glad that I finally made the purchase before I missed out. I have not come across anything else that matches this iridescent beauty. Absolutely gorgeous! The quality is impeccable. Bonus - the box it shipped in is useful, too.

There is a saying for us: all good things come in threes. That agrees here at Tony's fantastically beautiful and absolutely masterful jewelry box to 100%. If that's enough. Once again I am very excited and very happy. By the way, he built it at my request. His solution is brilliant. Because I wanted to have five rows for my many, bought last year, rings. Instead of the essentially superfluous rows, separated with a wooden strip, he created them across the whole interior. My jaw dropped. Really awesome. Tony is just a super great master of his trade. Now all my rings have found their place. Very nice, if order prevails. Thank you very much, continue to be very successful and kind regards, Friedrich
