These are some of my favorite books ever, the Life Nature/Science Library series. Packed with illustrations and carefully describing the subject of each book to the best of their 1960s ability, they are wonderful to read, or just to look at the photos and illustrations within.

THE POLES, oh the insidious magnetic poles! This book is incredible to browse through. This book details the North and South Poles, showing photographs and illustrations of landscapes, plant life, and human/animal habitats within these poles, full of amazing photographs and illustrations.

Also in this book is an amazing, freaky photograph of a Whiplash Saxifrage (fourth item photo), that looks like it might eat penguins. The internet provides no similarly amazing photos of this plant. Read about it here:

Table of Contents:

The Cold, Far Frontiers
The Slow Conquest of the North
Finding the Last Continent
Rigors of Polar Life
The World of the Tundra
Man at High Altitudes
The Coming Boom in the Arctic
The Great Antarctic Laboratory

This book has some very slight wear expected after decades of existence. Copyright in the 1962, reprinted in 1969. 9 by 11 inches, 192 pages long.
