So rare to find two Georgian paste buckles that are not only still together as an original pair but haven't been converted into brooches by the thrifty Victorians!

These exquisite court shoe buckles boast a multitude of hand cut foiled paste stones set into silver with a scalloped inner collar of rose gold overlay that is engraved in zig-zag patterns. They are fashioned in an elegant marquis shape and have fully functioning rocking hasps and prongs. Sadly two of the old pear cut stones are missing, one on each buckle in exactly the same position at the top, so it looks like these have not escaped stone harvesting at some point in their very long life. They are priced with this mind.

Incredibly labour intensive to manufacture and requiring high levels of skill Georgian paste jewelry is an art form in its own right often selling for more than its diamond equivalent, this pair of buckles is an absolute delight, a rare treat for any fashion historian or serious collector.

MATERIALS: Sterling silver (tested) rose gold overlay

GEMSTONES: French paste (glass)

MEASUREMENTS: 2 inches high, 1-1/4 inches wide (approx 50x32mm)

WEIGHT: 31.70 grams total

DATE: 1780-1800 Georgian era

CONDITION: Two missing stones at 12 o'clock as mentioned otherwise condition is excellent, particularly when you consider their incredible age! The rest of the stones are absolutely solid in the mount with no movement at all adding to our belief that the missing stones have deliberately been removed. They are also free from any chips or damage. Some of the paste stones are darker than others where the foil behind them has aged, but this is to be expected of any piece this age. The silver mountings and center prongs are perfect with the prongs opening as they should and staying firmly closed. Please note the box shown is not included with purchase but these buckles will be sent with the antique box they were in which is in a very aged and shabby condition.

Antique jewellery, by its very nature, is more fragile than modern jewellery and can be more prone to damage. Many of our pieces are 150 years old or more, it is part of their charm and they will require special care.

We guarantee all our items as described but can not guarantee they won't need maintenance or repair due to use and wear. With a modicum of care, the jewelry you are fond of can last many more lifetimes to come.

We accept no responsibility for pieces that become damaged whilst in your possession and such damaged items cannot be returned.
With literally thousands of online sales under our belt we are accomplished international shippers. We ship worldwide and will dispatch your order with tracking within one business day of ordering. Your highly anticipated purchase will arrive quickly and be beautifully gift wrapped and safely packaged to boot. Global express shipping upgrades are available at checkout too should you need it even faster.
We offer a sizing service for our rings and a traditional engraving service for our jewelry. Contact us for details and pricing
We are unable to show our entire collection in our Etsy shop so if you are looking for something that we don't have please feel free to contact us by email, phone or through our website. We have many more items in stock than are listed and may have the perfect piece. However, we do not make custom/bespoke jewelry to order, our focus is purely on preowned vintage and antique.
We do our utmost to accurately date and describe our jewelry. We use a variety of techniques, testing and observation. All precious metals are tested whether hallmarked or not. We use electronic testing equipment (Auracle & Misar) and acid testing. Colored gemstones are tested with the Presidium Duo Tester and diamonds with the Diamond Selector II. We use industry standard gauges and digital calipers for measuring gemstones. When we have jewelry appraised we use independent gemologists and appraisers who have no vested interest in the value of our inventory.
