Item details

Vintage from the 1970s

A stunning, bold tomato red jersey evening dress by John Bates for Jean Varon, probably dating from around 1972/73. Simply flowing down from the bra-style bodice, the dress is perfectly enhanced by the inserted pleated panels which are adorned with floral appliques at the top of each one. This has come from my personal Varon collection (having had it for more than 15 years myself) I've only ever seen this dress turn up in black before, and I think you'll agree that the red has the real wow factor!

Bust approx 34-36" (each cup measures 7" across fullest point so probably a B-C cup) - Underbust 29" - Waist 26-28" stretch - Hips 38" - Length 56"

Feels like very fine wool jersey but may be a blend

Excellent condition. There is a little mend on the left hand side near the pleated insert. When I first bought this, there was a bit of 'seam strain' so I restitched some of the seams by hand but this isn't noticeable externally. Sold as vintage.
