Victorian Mourning Brooch Forget Me Not

Lovely and sweet, here is an original early Victorian (late 1830's - 1850) enamel mourning brooch.

This is a dainty little fichu brooch, measuring 3/4" across, set in a gilt metal setting. Nice early enamel work of two white forget-me-nots on black. The Victorians were extremely sentimental and mastered the practice of mourning into an art form, and forget-me-nots symbolized undying love (see lovely young lady pictured on the right). Period correct tube hinge with "c" clasp closure. Has some wear but still a great example of an early Victorian era mourning brooch.

Take a look at my other original Victorian brooches!
