Antique Lingerie - TRILLIUM 100 % Pure Silk Pale Pink “Step-ins”

This is an exquisite example of the late 1920s "Teddy Bear Drawers".

The top measures 42 inches. On the inside is a thin ribbon which can tighten or loosen the garment if desired.

The Straps aren’t adjustable.

Length is 23 inches armpit to hem.

Bottom hem is fabulous! See pictures. Comes up high on the sides.

Multiple issues with this one, the previous owner had detached the crotch and reattached it lower onto the triangular hem, I removed the clumsy stitches and decided the next owner can reattach wherever they wish. There are spots of wear and pinholes throughout. No stains or fade however.

This is a very delicate piece of lingerie. It is wearable however, I recommend wearing it sparingly and hand wash it in the mildest soap available.

REMEMBER: This is about 90 years old. It isn’t going to be perfect!
-----------------------------------------

These garments are symbolic of the desired modern undergarments that women required after the Suffrage movement in the United States. They were much shorter than the previous chemises and undergarments. This was important because post World War I, hemlines were raised significantly!

The desire for a more modern undergarment that allowed for freedom of movement and flexibility led to the production of the Step-In/Teddy Bear Drawers/ (much later the Teddy)
The crotch of step-ins hang very low and sort of just float around the mid thigh regions.
“The addition of the narrow tab or ribbon is puzzling in that it served no apparent purpose. Though this addition may have kept the combination from riding up if the wearer raised her arms or performed some other vigorous movement, it was more likely an archaic vestige of the sort that occasional remains with the design of clothing even after it has lost its function.” ((Jill Fields author of An Intimate Affair: Women, Lingerie, and Sexuality))
