Original oil on canvas board. Colours include fresh light greens (variously sap, pistachio, celery, lettuce, olive and celadon), dusky rose, violet, pale lilac to powder pink.

Lots of delicious lively spontaneous gestural mark making and rich yet delicately modulated texture. This work has quite an Impressionist feel, even though it was painted in an improvised way in the studio with no particular place in mind, more from thinking of a old roses, their perfumes and a favourite rose, Tour de Malakoff that grows in my garden.

18 by 12 inches
Completed March 8th 2011.

Medium: Oil paints, using alkyd medium (this greatly reduces "drying" time, as well as increasing luminosity and creating a more flexible paint film, less liable to brittleness and cracking with age.)

Unframed. Digital borders added to one image to give a sense of the painting on display.

Paintings are signed and dated on the back and sent with a certificate of authenticity. A small signature monogram is also added to the front of the painting.

This work will be sent to you carefully wrapped in protective packing papers, polythene, bubble wrap and sealed, reinforced cardboard packaging and sent via International Airmail.

Shipping costs are included in the price.

Please bear in mind that this cheaper option means that the painting will not be insured or tracked and may take up to seven or more working days to arrive (the stated aim is 5-7 working days on the Royal Mail website). Airmail does not include tracking/insurance. Certificate of posting is obtained.
If you would prefer Airsure (or International Signed-For, if Airsure is not available in your country) with priority handling, tracking code and delivery confirmation, this costs $15 extra. Please contact me before ordering and I will quickly adjust the shipping rate and put the painting on reserve for you.

I'll ship to the address given to Etsy unless a note is included when ordering with an alternative address, for example a work or other daytime address. I can also include your contact phone number on the package (some customers request this for convenience). Just let me know in the note to seller at checkout or via etsy conversations at time of ordering.

A small archival reproduction print of this work is also available here:

Canvas boards may be displayed easily either unframed or framed; they're standard sizes so one economical possibility is to use a good quality photo frame (minus glazing).

A good modern option is a floating box frame, where a small recess surrounds the painting's edges giving the appearance of it being suspended within a fairly substantial flat moulding.

Perhaps an older, more elaborate frame could be discovered that would be more interesting with the painting... just one possible avenue to explore. A broader frame or adding one or more mats/mounts inside a larger frame may be the right choice for a larger wall area.

Ideally, if you have a good framing shop near to you I would strongly recommend using them, as framing is such an art in itself. A good framer will enhance the art greatly, as well as choosing materials to suit your individual requirements.
