Original imaginary portrait - landscape with pastoral spring atmosphere.
Petal like accents in richly variegated brushtrokes of contrasting greens and subtly modulated violet, lilac, powdery mauve pink and brown - grey.
Brush and knife painted, with fine veils of light gold ochre and rose oil pastel form subtle glints and delicate tracery.
Peaceful sylvan atmosphere.

Quite difficult to capture in photos, and the appearance changes subtly in different lighting situations, cooler in daylight, as shown here; more golden green and warm in lamplight The direction of the lighting alters the surface appearance noticeably too).
Image 5 shows the whole painting.

By contemporary English painter Amanda Collis.

20 high by 16 wide (inches) / 508 x 406 mm.

Oil paints, using alkyd medium (this greatly reduces "drying" time, as well as increasing luminosity and creating a more flexible paint film, less prone to brittleness and cracking with age.) Only the finest (richest colour; highest pigment content) oil colours are used.
Support: high quality Winsor and Newton canvas wrapped board.
Unframed. Digital borders added to one image to give a sense of the painting on display.

Canvas boards can be framed easily as they're made in standard sizes; one possibility is to use a good quality photo frame (minus glass). I think this painting might look best in a broader, more elaborate frame, to echo the bourgeois bohemian boudoir (!) mood (did someone mention Biba?), but it's a very personal thing of course. Could be a lovely adventure in itself discovering the right frame :-)

Completed March 10th 2011.
