Item details

Vintage from the 1970s

Heavenly dream of a summer maxi dress by John Bates for Jean Varon. The high bibbed front is made from a stunningly tie dyed soutache panel, backed with a netting, which perfectly intersects the main body of fabric which is a wonderful painterly floral, moving from the lighter, sparser top to the heavier, darker area around the hem. The shoulder straps are tied in the back, giving you a bit of flexibility. This is one of those piece which really comes alive on a body, and would honestly be the most amazingly beautiful (but also comfortable) summer evening dresses I've seen. It's made from quite a stiff synthetic, which holds the shape beautifully and makes it quite easy to look after (easy to pack in a suitcase too!). Plus, best of all, it has POCKETS!!!!

The most fitted part is above the bust, so under the armpits which is 35" - Bust up to 36" then loose to the hips - Hips 44" - Length 59"

Polyester in the main (smooth surface and quite lightweight). Synthetic ribbon soutache panel with sheer fabric behind.

Excellent condition. Feels almost unworn. Sold as vintage.
