Dimensions

Pendant height: 0.95 Inches; Pendant width: 0.51 Inches

This pendant features a crystal of alexandrite with a color change from emerald green to red-purple depending on the lighting. The stoneweighs 6.5 carats and is set in solid 14k yellow gold wire.

Alexandrite is one of the world's rarest and most precious gemstones. It is the color change version of the gem chrysoberyl--chrysoberyl is already a phenomenal gem mineral, with great optical properties and high hardness. Alexandrite brings it to the next level with its incredible coloration. In daylight it is a rich emerald green to blue-green, but under candle light it transforms, turning ruby red to red-purple.

Alexandrite was first found in Russia and named after the Czar Alexander II. While the Russian stones are still held in highest esteem, a number of other locales have produced fine alexandrite, including Brazil, Tanzania, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. Zimbabwean stones are rarely clean enough to facet, but show some of the best-formed crystals with excellent color changes.

This stone is a beautiful example of zimbabwean alexandrite. It has a rich blueish-green color in natural light which shifts towards green-blue under fluorescent light. Viewing it under a warm light brings out a purple color which reveals a rich pink when the light is right against it. It also has a beautiful clustered crystal form. It is also fairly gemmy on the edges which lets it catch the light quite well.
