DESCRITION:

Here is a truly beautiful pair of antique Willson Tortoise Shell driving goggles. These are incredibly rare, as these antique glasses were created from genuine tortoise shell. Beautiful natural variations in the rich, amber, marbled tortoise shell. Coupled with the green tinted lenses, this makes for one of the most beautiful pairs of Steampunk goggles edmdesigns has ever had the priveledge to offer. This pair spares no luxury, with rich, embossed and perforated leather side shields to round out their exquisite looks. And just to add to their appeal, these glasses are in mint condition. If you are looking for an authentic pair of driving goggles from the early 1900's, you will never see another opportunity quite like this one.

CONDITION:

LENSES:
The beautiful green tinted lenses are flawless. The surfaces of both lenses are as smooth and inviting as a windless lake, waiting for you to slip within its depths. There may be a spec or two in the glass, but that is common with glass that was manufactured a century ago as the methods were not as refined as they are now and an occassional bubble can often be found in glass of this vintage. Buy them. You will see that for all practical purposes that these lenses are mint.

FRAMES:
The genuine tortoise shell frames around each lens have a satin-like sheen that appears to be free of scuffs or scrapes of any kind, aside from the typical tiny imperfections that occur in any natural material. I cannot begin to imagine the difficulty in carving a solid piece of tortoise shell into the shape of a frame complete with a groove to accept the lens and then taking this delicate piece and forcing a piece of glass into place. This is the kind of craftsmanship that hasn't existed in this country for a long, long time. The frames could only be desribed as a work of art.

The left and right lenses are joined by a length of brown woven fabric that is in astonishingly strong and flexible. If well cared for, there is no reason that these glasses shouldn't last another 100 years.

SIDE SHIELDS:
The leather side shields are also in remarkable condition. They are not dried or cracked and are completely flexible. The gorgeous brown coloring is just icing on the cake of these exquisitely styled driving goggles. The leather is perforated for ventilation and each side is embossed with the Willson name and the words "Made In U.S.A.".

EARPIECES - ARMS:
The earpieces are and extra-thin wire type with a strong, springy resiliance. They wrap around your ear and hold the glasses firmly in place. Given the flexible nature of these earpieces, it would be nearly impossible to break them even a century after they were made.

MEASUREMENTS:
The goggles measure approximately 122mm wide from hinge to hinge and the lenses measure approximately 48mm high, including the frames - please consider the dimensions when selecting any pair of goggles, and if you have a question please don't hesitate to ask.

These are some of the most gorgeous Steampunk driving goggles that we have ever encountered, and the green tinted lenses makes them exceptionally rare, not to mention the gorgeous tortoise shell frames. If you want a look that is unmistakably Steampunk, and if you want to know the true pleasure of wearing some authentic roadster-ready specs, this pair will provide you with the ultimate satisfaction. Don't wait, this is the only pair like this we've ever seen.
