Glass, Silver, Wood & nut

Pendant height: 1 Inches; Pendant width: 1 Inches

A crescent moon carved from tagua nut* is the focal for this double strand necklace. On the longer strand (20-23 inches), avocado, kiwi, and pine green tagua nut beads alternate with antiqued silver plated metal beads. The shorter strand (18-21 inches) features avocado and green-coated glass seed beads. The wire ends of the two strands are covered by metal beaded cones that attach to a swivel antiqued silver brass lobster claw clasp and a 3-inch silver plated extension chain.

* Tagua (tog-wa) nut beads come from the nuts of South American rain forest palm trees. Tagua is often called vegetable ivory or palm ivory, due to its color and rock-hardness when dried.

The color green symbolizes health, fertility, and prosperity. The crescent symbol has long been used as a symbol of the Moon in astrology. Ancient associations connect the crescent moon symbol with Ishtar/Astarte and Diana, representing the female principle. In Roman Catholic Marian veneration, it is associated with the Virgin Mary.
