This necklace features a gorgeous polished cabochon of pale blue Larimar, paired with a black Peruvian fossil ammonite, and set in sterling silver. Larimar is a rare blue variety of the silicate mineral pectolite. It is found only in the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean, and its coloration varies from light sky blue, aqua blues, and some deeper blues. Black ammonites are of the species Asteroceras Obtusi, and went extinct about the same time as the dinosaurs, and are found in Peru. I set the polished Larimar in a smooth sterling silver bezel, with a backing and overlapping edge of 24 gauge sheet sterling silver. The black ammonite dangles below, and is set with sterling clasps and a form fitting bezel around the edge of the ammonite. I created the hanger with a V-cut 1/4 inch sterling tube, and an edge of patterned sterling. Sarah ran the beads of light to deep teal blues and black through the hanger. These beads include black onyx, blue Apatite, Amazonite, blue sponge quartz, cultured pearls, Swarovski crystal, and Czech glass, including ammonite-shaped glass. There are numerous sizes and widths of sterling spacer beads, and sterling coiled shell beads to add to the fossil theme of the piece. The hook and loop style clasp is also sterling silver. This piece is 19 1/2 inches long. The total centerpiece height is 2 1/2 inches, by 1 3/8 inches wide. There are also matching earrings available, which include blue Apatite, blue sponge quartz, Swarovski crystal, and sterling silver; and measure 1 inch in length. This is an amazing statement piece, and will be an attention getter! Great for the lover of blue!
