This 1940s or 1950s gorgeous robin’s egg blue taffeta and chiffon strapless dress would be just the thing to wear to prom or another formal evening special event. It has a nest of little cream flowers (with pearl centers) on the bust, just below the sweetheart neckline. There’s an attached chiffon scarf that you could drape over your back, wrap around, or tie up as a halter. See photos for ideas. The bust has great structure to it, with corset boning. There are three layers: the inner is taffeta, there’s a middle layer of crinoline in the skirt, and an outer layer of chiffon. The dress is photographed WITHOUT any additional crinoline underneath it. It is a very true robin’s egg color, with that hint of green, not a pale or baby blue.

Measurements of garment (taken flat, so double for entire garment):
Bust (armpit to armpit, does not include cups): 16 inches
Waist (taken at the narrowest part of the garment): 11.5 inches
Hips (taken approximately where skirt begins to fall): free
Length (armpit to hem): 50 inches
Vintage sizing can be different from modern sizing. Please rely on individual measurements. The simplest way to measure is to take a similar garment that fits you well, lay it out on a flat surface and measure it.
Tag: Lot, with a blank after, and Size 12

Details I love: sweetheart neckline, structured bodice, beautiful color, details on bust, attached scarf

Condition: This dress is in very good wearable condition. The zipper is in excellent condition and works smoothly, and all of the seams are sturdy. The selvages on the seams inside the skirt are unfinished, as is typical of truly vintage dresses, and the selvages are crisp and clean. There are some flaws though, but they do not detract from the overall impression. The worst of the flaws is that there are 5 small holes in the chiffon layer on the left side of the dress. These are all very small, and get lost in the flow of the full skirt. There are also pulls scattered throughout the chiffon. It is very clean, and there aren’t any stains. There is some extremely faint dirt at the hem and inside the bust, but you really have to look to see it.

I welcome any questions you have, so please convo me; I'd love to hear from you. If you’d like to see other photos and more detail, just ask. Thank you for browsing Twig and Sprout, where everything old has new life.

I make every effort to thoroughly check each garment I sell. I examine the entire length of every seam, lace to fabric connections, and look over each layer of fabric for any pulls, snags, holes, or stains. Any flaws I find are noted in the description. Very few of the garments I sell, being in vintage condition, are completely perfect. However, the majority of them are sturdy and flaws are only visible upon very close inspection. I tend to over explain flaws, but I want you to be as informed as possible about the condition of the item. It is however possible for me to miss something, so do understand that this item is in vintage condition.
