A beautiful teardrop of polished Wyoming green jade and a rust red and green, symmetrical-shaped cabochon of India Bloodstone set into sterling silver form the centerpiece pendant of this necklace. Bloodstone is a variety of jasper, or chalcedony, and is a mineral aggregate also called Heliotrope. Heliotrope was called the stone of Babylon by Albert the Great. Red hematite gives the reddish color. Color ranges are reds, greens, and browns, normally with a more green background and red spots, hence the name bloodstone. This piece has more of the rusts, with green inclusions. Some Bloodstone also has a striped patterning of the rusts and greens. Bloodstone is primarily found in Indonesia, but other finds have been located around the world. Wyoming is one of the states known for its deposits of nephrite jade, ranging from black to apple green, such as the green piece in this necklace. I set the two polished stones with a serrated sterling silver bezel and backed with 24 gauge sterling sheet. The jade stone is set over the top of the sterling hanger, also created from the 24 gauge sheet sterling. Sarah ran beads through the hanger, pulling out the rust reds and greens of the stone, as well as coppery reds and olive greens for contrast. These beads include red jasper, green moss agate, faceted green Canadian jade spheres, Bloodstone, cultured pearls, Swarovski crystal, and Czech glass. There is a variety of sizes and widths of sterling silver spacer beads, and larger double-ended triangular sterling beads to add to the silver sparkle of the piece. The elaborate hook and loop style clasp is also sterling silver. This necklace is 20 1/2 inches in length, and the pendant is 2 3/8 inches long, by 1 inch wide. The red and green contrasts in this necklace give it a very rich and striking look, and it will go well with a wide range of colors in clothing. This is sure to become a favorite!
