Imagine walking down the aisle in this very classy and flattering 1940s or 1950s off white wedding dress! There are so many lovely details that went into this gown, which appears to be custom made. The entire dress is embroidered, right down to each of the 33 buttons in a row down the back. It has an illusion neckline with semi-sheer lace, and the layer underneath shows through with a very bust-flattering sweetheart neckline. It’s the perfect amounts of sexy and classy. (The sweetheart neckline is more visible when on than in the photos, but my dress form does not fill out the bust.) In the back, the underneath layer shows as a very classy V.

The edge of the neckline is formed by embroidered flowers of two different shapes, alternating, and each flower has 6 glass beads sewn in the middle of it. This goes around the whole neckline, and every single bead is still intact. It has princess seams, and gorgeous piping where the bodice meets the skirt, with a V in the front and the back of the bottom of the bodice. There are three layers: The outer layer is organza, there’s a middle layer of crinoline in the skirt, and I believe the inner layer is a thinner taffeta, but I do not know for certain. The dress is photographed WITHOUT any additional crinoline underneath it. It is kind of a creamy off white. The top sheer layer is a pale ivory, but the taffeta layer is more of an off white, so the general effect is somewhere between the two. The inner layer is matte or a bit shimmery depending on the angle the light hits it, so the dress has subtle glow to it.

Measurements of garment (taken flat, so double for entire garment):
Bust (armpit to armpit, does not include cups): 32 inches
Waist (taken at the narrowest part of the garment): 12.5 inches
Hips (taken approximately where skirt begins to fall): free
Length (armpit to hem): 57 inches (top layer)
The arms on this are on the small side, so please check these measurements as well to be sure this dress will work for you (also taken flat so double for entire garment):
Arm holes at shoulder: 7 inches
Arm opening: 6.25 inches

Vintage sizing can be different from modern sizing. Please rely on individual measurements. The simplest way to measure is to take a similar garment that fits you well, lay it out on a flat surface and measure it.

Tag: Appears to be custom made, there is a tag sewn in a seam, with blanks for filling in information. It says:
Order No 1486 (stamped in red)
Style blank
Size 929 12 (stamped in brown)
Remarks blank
The tag is also hand initialed.

Details I love: double layer bodice, sweetheart illusion neckline and a v-back, structured bodice, piping, row of buttons down the back, flowers along neckline with beading

Condition: This dress is in excellent/very good vintage condition. It is very clean, with no yellowing or underarm/wear staining. The hems are clean as well. (You’ll probably want it professionally cleaned before wearing to remove any wrinkles.) The seams are pinked and very sturdy. There are some flaws though. The worst of the flaws is that there two small dark stains near the hem on the top layer of the dress. (Please see last photo.) They are smaller than pea-sized, and with the way that skirt drapes, they are inside a fold and not visible. (When dancing or moving they might peak out though... they're quite small but I want to make sure you're aware.) There are some tears in the crinoline (middle) layer of the skirt, but this is completely covered and not visible. Lastly, the seam below the buttons (at the lower back) has come apart about 1 inch, but looks like an easy fix. (See the fourth picture for this.) The top layer is not hemmed, which will save that having to be taken out to re-hem it to go with your height/shoes. It does have a thin layer of interface all around the bottom, and so it could be worn without hemming. You can see how the interface looks in the last photo of all the dress layers. (Look at the top layer in the bottom half of the photo; the edge is tucked under the rest of the dress on the top half of the photo.) I inspected this dress very thoroughly, but please keep in mind I may have missed some small flaws, as there was a lot of fabric to look at! This dress is not in perfect condition, so if you are looking for immaculate, this is not it. It may, however, be the perfect dress for you.

I welcome any questions you have, so please convo me; I'd love to hear from you. If you’d like to see other photos and more detail, just ask. Thank you for browsing Twig and Sprout, where everything old has new life.

I make every effort to thoroughly check each garment I sell. I examine the entire length of every seam, lace to fabric connections, and look over each layer of fabric for any pulls, snags, holes, or stains. Any flaws I find are noted in the description. Very few of the garments I sell, being in vintage condition, are completely perfect. However, the majority of them are sturdy and flaws are only visible upon very close inspection. I tend to over explain flaws, but I want you to be as informed as possible about the condition of the item. It is however possible for me to miss something, so do understand that this item is in vintage condition.
