The Barber coins (dime, quarter, and half dollar) were named after their designer, Charles E. Barber, and were minted between 1892 and 1916. They seem to have been quite popular in circulation, so it's hard to find specimens that are not well worn. The obverse side of the coin has a Liberty head with wreath surrounded by stars, and the reverse has an eagle.
Each ring is a unique combination of the historic use of the coin and my workmanship in transforming it into art, but these samples will give you a good idea of what your made-to-order ring might look like.
I make these rings individually by turning them from the flat coin into a ring that leaves the coin relief running across the band of the ring on the outside, and some of the relief left on the inside as well. I then hammer the rings (gently) to create an even shape all around. And finally, they are polished until they shine. The natural patina will vary slightly depending on the age and personal history of the individual coin.
Please contact me by using the Request Custom Order button or by sending me a message using Etsy's Conversation feature to arrange your custom order. You will need to provide the following information to assure your satisfaction:
1) Confirm your ring size and provide that information; I can make these rings in U.S. sizes 7 to 13 (including half sizes in between).
2) Choose which side of the coin you'd like to have on the outside of the ring. With the Barbers, most of the interesting stuff is on the obverse (Liberty's head, date, stars—as in the sample above), whereas the reverse is the usual eagle (plus United States of America and Half Dollar) that's on the reverse of most U.S. coins.
3) Let me know any date preference you might have, keeping in mind that these coins were minted from 1892–1916. I can't guarantee to have all dates in stock, but I can try to find one for you if I don't have it.
Then I'll make your ring for you. The time from your order to shipment can be up to two weeks depending on workload and whether or not I have your preferred coin date in stock.
Thanks for looking!
