Ancient Warriors: Hebrew Shave Brush - Joshua

This is Brush ten of ten in a textured shave brush series mixing literature referring to ancient warriors, and clay. Here, on brush ten, refers to Joshua.

This account of Joshua in the Hebrew literature is quite old and comes from the early Hebrew tribal league as it was forming. The writer here in Joshua chapter 6 tells of the hero Joshua surrounding the city of Jericho.

Unlike the twenty year battle of the Greeks at the walls of Troy in the Iliad, battle of Jericho was over quite quickly with little effort. When the great walls fell, like the Greeks, the Hebrews and Joshua destroyed the city.

In this ancient Hebrew text of Joshua 6:24 tells of the encounter.

On this shave brush handle the text reads:

והעיר שׂרפו באשׁ וכל־אשׁר־בה רק הכסף

" They burned down the city and everything in it."- Joshua 6:24

The text comes up faint in the clay , like the artifacts of old that scholars debate over.

Each brush will be sent in a wood gift box shown above, then wrapped and packed in a larger for safe mailing.

This brush is crafted for lathering shaving soap and textured on the outside for beauty and grip.

This stoneware piece was carefully hand-crafted in the USA on the pottery wheel, textured outside, creating not only a shaving brush but also a piece of fine art.

The outside contains a wash of red iron oxide to bring out the lines in the raw clay and fired to 2232˚F in a gas kiln.

Each brush is unique because it's handcrafted. No two will be the same. I will try my best to color match the images with the glazes.
