Glass, Silver

Pendant height: 7/8 Inches; Pendant width: 3/8 Inches

This pendant, of sterling silver and found (by me!) olive beach glass pendant is made of a large, beachy, naturally sandblasted, thick freeform glass chunk wrapped in a generous length of soldered sterling silver and finished off with a simple wire-wrapped sterling bail with a spiral wave prong detail. Like a treasure surrounded by ocean waves. It looks black in low light. I love the big irregular and triangular pieces, as they lend themselves so well to this setting and are held very securely.

The color of the glass is a rare green called olive or citron. It is jewelry grade AAA, uniformly sandblasted without cracks or chips. The finished pendant is about 1 3/8" tall by almost 3/4" wide and the incorporated bail will easily accommodate a chain or cord up to 5mm in diameter. This is such a unique piece that I have selected two of my favorite sterling chains for you to consider. Long box chain on the left, chain"E" (a sturdy cable type) on the right.

My husband and I found a beach in California a few years ago that is just packed with beach glass! We now make regular trips there and have jars of the beautiful stuff, including many rare colors. We can spend all day there listening to the sounds of the sea and searching for treasure.

Did you know that I must discard a hundred or more pieces of glass on a beach before I find one that will even work for a pendant? They must be relatively flat, and uniformly-sized around the edges. Making the pendant is the easy part! It's *almost* as much fun as combing the beaches. I have some tiny glass jar pendants with beach sand and tiny sea glass available in my shop as well. If you are looking for a particular color, I likely have a match in my collection.

I hammered the silver wire to make it hard and keep the glass in place. It has been tumbled shiny, but can be oxidized/antiqued upon your request. It would look great on a thicker silver chain, a leather cord, or a sterling ball chain. Check the "Just Cords and Chains" secton in my main shop for some of the other options I have available: http://www.etsy.com/shop/HillCountrySilver?section_id=7701618

I really believe that this pendant deserves a bigger chain, but if you just want a simple chain, my prices are excellent for a petite Sterling cable chain, and can also be added to the pendant as an option. A spring ring clasp finishes the petite cable chain, and the thicker chains have a thin lobster clasp closure.

An occasional soak in warm soapy water (yes, except for soft/porous stones like turquoise, they are safe for showering, too!) will keep your item looking new, as will daily wear, which inhibits tarnish. For orders $25+ I also include a small polishing cloth which can be used on dry pieces until it is completely black.

For shiny jewelry, I use a silver dip product for polishing. Just dip and then rinse in water. This will not remove black lettering.

If the text lightens (common inside of bracelets), fill in the letters with a Sharpie. Best hack ever! Wipe off the excess ink while it is still wet and sand off remaining residue to make the lettering pop again. I include sanding paper in every stamped bracelet order.
Exact wrist size is important for my bracelets! A 7-inch bracelet only works on a 6.75 inch wrist if it is chain. One with 1-inch beads that is 7" long may only fit a 5" wrist. So please send your exact wrist circumference if you are ordering a bracelet and want to love it a long time!
