I designed this penguin 3 years ago when my child wanted to read again and again a picture book about a penguin who had lost his way and one day found himself at the doorstep of a little boy.

The penguin I made showed up one morning at our breakfast table and my child and him became inseparable. The Penguin became known as Pingvini and inspired my shop's name.

I have now crafted almost the same design in a big and chubby size (the original one fitted in a little hand) so now it takes two little arms to hug Pingvini.

The grey part is knitted in a natural grey shade of organic alpaca yarn sourced from Peru. The wings are lined with light brown/beige baby corduroy (certified organic, stocked from www.gossypium.co.uk). The same type of corduroy (certified organic) is used for the beak and feet (stocked from Germany - www.siebenblau.de).

It is stuffed with organic wool, sourced from UK (www.greenfibres.co.uk) and has a very soft belly and bottom made of organic cotton terry fabric.

The penguin is a safe toy even for small babies (no small parts that can be swallowed or strings) as long as safety precautions for sleeping are otherwise observed.

Size: 8.3 inch tall / 21 cm tall

Here are some facts I learned about this alpaca yarn, called Angel Touch, from the distributor: http://www.perunaturtex.com/organic1.htm

The Alpaca animals (graceful creatures, looking a bit like lamas) have lived in the Andes for 8,000 years, grazing on wild pastures 4,000 meters above sea level.

Fiber sorting employs dozens of women highly skilled in quality control and tactile recognition of fiber fineness. The fiber is spun in a Skal inspected mill under direct supervision for organic standards. The yarn is certified by FLO-CERT for Fair-trade standards.

* Alpaca is almost indestructible - fine woven alpaca in good condition have recently been discovered in Peruvian ruins dating back 2500 years.
* Healthy and comfortable to wear - no lanolin or other oils in the fleece
* Hypoallergenic
* Alpaca fiber has a hollow fiber core - creating superior warmth with little weight.

Alpaca is lighter, 20% warmer, silkier and has no pilling compared to wool or cashmere. The finest of all Alpaca grades is Organic Baby Alpaca, used to knit this penguin.
