Reoccurring Dream
Art Quilt: machine fray edge appliqued, foundation pieced, embroidered and quilted.
Size: 31" x 22" (79 x 56 cm).
Ready to hang!

Artist Statement: This piece is about the duality of being a former research neuroscientist and my reemerging passion for creative expression. The double helical DNA columns (upper left) and the spider web segment (upper right) represent metaphors for the duality of the logical left brain and the emotional or creative right brain. It isn’t my desire to seek balance between the two. I instead desire to further explore spontaneous creative right. Also I want to break free from the precision and details of the logical left. Note how the spider web isn’t in full view and that only a portion is seen. The lower mask like image is actually a cross-sectional view of the human brain depicted in a primitive style. The cloud space background represents a surrealist backdrop for contrasting scientific and emotive metaphors and imagery.
This piece has been on exhibit in Oak Park and the Chicago area.
