DESCRIPTION:

This is an authentic Napoléon III coin, dated 1866 and signed by its designer. The Profile of the French emperor is seen as a Roman emperor wearing a crown of laurel leaves. This is one of the favorite representations of the Emperor whose empire stretch North and East of France before he was defeated in 1815.

While the coin is dated 1866, the mounting is a more recent creation. We estimate the coin was set in the earlier sixties. The setting is crafted in 750/000 solid gold while the 10 Francs coin is 900/000. Many such coins were used to create beautiful rings, cuff links, pendants, etc.

The ring is in very good vintage condition with wear commensurate with age. The camera has magnified a few scraches on the surface of the coin. They are not visible to the naked eye.

*Information on gold jewelry:

- 24K gold is pure gold. (it is not really used in jewellery because it is too soft and not practical for daily wear.)
-18K gold contains 18 parts gold and 6 parts of one or more additional metals, making it 75% gold. This level of fineness is used extensively in French and Italian jewelry and in most quality pieces)
-14K gold contains 14 parts gold and 10 parts of one or more additional metals, making it 58.3% gold. (It is used extensively in the US)
-12K gold contains 12 parts gold and 12 parts of one or more additional metals, making it 50% gold.
-10K gold contains 10 parts gold and 14 parts of one or more additional metals, making it 41.7% gold. 10K gold is the minimum standard that can be called "gold" in the United States.
Antique jewelry and rare items often contain the lower level of fineness, but their value is based on a myriad of other factors.

The earrings are beautiful and were very well photographed so I had a clear idea of what I was ordering. I would have liked a photo of the earrings on a mannequin or model so that I could have understood their size a little better.
