Item details

Vintage from the 1930s

Stunning Mexican Arts and Crafts from the WPA era shows a romantic couple and pottery (!) on this colorful San Jose Workshops Plaque. Señora holds a beautifully decorated olla and the blooming cactus adds to this lovely scene. On buff clay and signed on the front with a Maquey craftmark. In very good condition, with no cracks, chips or repairs. The rich brown surround glaze is enhanced by the bright glazes. Made and glazed by hand it shows slight imperfections as is common with a hand crafted piece. See photos. There is a small chip on the edge which does not detract.

Measures 11 1/2".

Pictured in our ”California Revival” book on Page 155.
