This pair (1 cup and 1 saucer) is a classic beauty with the beloved geometric shape of many American colonial dishes and American colonial design in lots of things. The ivory white color is also a classic American favorite; and these 2 dishes were made by one of America's most beloved vintage dishware makers, Homer Laughlin. Homer Laughlin put out a huge quantity china and stoneware dishware patterns throughout many decades of the 20th century before the company went out of business. This Colonial White pattern in the Dover shape was in its heyday in the 1970s.

This cup and saucer happens to be unmarked, however that is not uncommon since Homer Laughlin allowed some its very popular patterns to be sold under several different names despite the fact that they were all made by Homer Laughlin and are interchangeable.

You will notice if you compare this geometrically designed cup and saucer to many of its similar competitors made by Pfaltzgraff, the English company Johnson Brothers, or others, this design is a bit simpler and less busy. The angled handle has 3 sides instead of a busy six. The foot is gently sloped rather than heavily indented. The saucer border is embossed with only one line rather than a complex pattern of lines. To my eye it seems to fit better with the simplicity of colonial America than some of the busier colonial designs.

Cup - 2 3/4" high x 3 1/2" wide at top x 1 3/8" wide at the bottom. Saucer - 5 3/4" wide

Excellent condition for you or to give as a gift -- also a very nice piece to make into a candle or to plant
with succulents so it can be kept out all the time.
